“I am the Lord, your God.”

Reading Leviticus 19 left me with those 6 words…”I am the Lord, your God.”  I tried to count how many times He says this to Moses as He goes through the various laws.  I came up with at least 15.  I think I’m going to post it on my mirror so I can see it every morning.  God is calling us to be different from the rest of the world, and telling us to do it because He is our Lord.

A New Body, Yes!

August 18, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

I read 1 Corinthians 15:35-58 out of the Living Bible. It made me smile because I love creation and it was being referenced; people, animals, fish and birds, sun, moon and stars. This passage helped me understand that from seeds to animals, fish and birds, to sun, moon and stars and angels, that all are glorious in God’s eyes, yet all are different.  It made a lot of sense to me. Vs. 39 “and just as there are different kinds of seeds and plants so also there are different kinds of flesh.” Vs 40 “The angels in heaven have bodies far different from ours, and the beauty and glory of their bodies is different from the beauty and glory of ours.” I guess I never thought of my body as a beauty and glory! Vs. 41 “The sun has one kind of glory while the moon and stars have another kind.” It’s very positive, isn’t it? I know our bodies die and decay. I heard that it begins happening at age 25! Yikes! I also know that I need to take care of my body, it’s the only one I have. I realize it is dying and therefore, so am I but I don’t have a problem with that. It’s comforting for me to know that we will be given a spiritual, heavenly body like Christ’s that “cannot perish but will live forever! “vs. 53  It’s also comforting to know that God wants me to be with Him forever in Heaven! I need to do my best, down here, to live up to that!

Heaven is my home . . .

Format Change to Fourthought Blog

August 10, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comment

For those of you, who are Peace members and attenders, please note a recent change to our selection of Scriptures for this blog.    Instead of 4 Bible Chapters that connect to the upcoming weekend message,  we will now be suggesting 5 Scriptures at the beginning of the week that correspond to the previous weekend message — 1 Scripture passage for each week day with a reflection question.    We will still have staff members and deacons writing their personal reflections and you are invited to share your responses as well.    Also, be watching for a new name to this site.    We hope that the changes will help make this site more helpful in connecting you to God’s Word and help you to reflect more deeply on weekend message.

The Old Becomes Brand New

Earlier this week I had an opportunity to spend some quality time with a close friend of mine fishing in beautiful northern Wisconsin.  Although our time together seemed to fly by, the conversations we had while in the boat only added to the excitement of actually catching fish and lots of them!

Soldiers of the Cross – part 2

What will you do with your one and only life? I’m sure you’re thinking along the lines of, “This a Church question so I’ll say, ‘I’ll follow Jesus with my life. I’ll help others with my life. I’ll live a good life so God will be happy with me.’ ” The problem is, that’s not good enough. Nothing we do will ever be good enough. In the movie, Capt. Miller was urging Private Ryan to make his life worthy of the sacrifice. And those words probably haunted Private Ryan for the rest of his days. Why? Because if we’re honest, what can we ever do that makes us worthy enough for someone to lay down his life? Deep down, I think the older Private Ryan knew there was nothing he could have done to earn that gift of life. There was nothing in him that made him worthwhile.
