Guiding people to fully live as followers of Jesus
Deacons

A Deacon is a servant of God who has been gifted with leadership skills. Here at Peace we have eleven elected deacons. They serve on a Board of Deacons that democratically makes decisions and provides direction to the staff. Their authority is delegated to them by the Congregation through the church’s Bylaws and other timely actions taken by the Congregation at a legally constituted Voters Meeting. Among other things, the deacons are responsible for developing and recommending the church’s vision, mission, and strategic plan, for overseeing progress on strategic goals and objectives of the staff, for monitoring the handling of God’s financial resources so that all is done legally, ethically and most efficiently, for supervising and evaluating the work of the Lead Pastor, for ensuring that all other paid staff are also supervised and evaluated by their supervisors, for ensuring that proper policies and procedures are set in place and being followed, for recommending to the Congregation candidates for “called” staff positions, and for seeing that worship and other spiritual expectations are occurring in a manner that is Biblical and consistent with doctrine. A deacon is also expected to set an example for others with respect to his or her faith walk and service to the Lord.
