Special Meeting | August 19, 2024

Meeting was called to order at 6:31 by John Genskow, Board of Deacons Chair, who also gave the opening prayer.

The Call Committee members and the Current Board of Deacon members were recognized. Appreciation was expressed to the previous Board of Deacons for being proactive in starting the call process in advance of Pastor Marks planned retirement.

Mark Oldenberg, Call Committee Chair, described the call process and why the committee recommended calling Pastor Luhman.

John Genskow presented the compensation recommendation. The Personnel Committee made a recommendation based on progressive responsibility toward being the Lead Pastor July 1, 2026 and the LCMS Compensation tool which considers Position, Degree, Experience, and location. The Board of Deacons also considered Peace Church’s historical Pastor salary recommendations. The recommendation put before the congregation is:

The floor was opened for nominations for Lead Pastor Elect. Dennis Denk, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, nominated Pastor Ethan Luhman. Paul Weinke Seconded the nomination. There were no other nominations. Jan Steiner made a motion for the election vote to be unanimous for Pastor Luhman. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously by voice vote.

Del Polzin made the following motion:

Motion to Call Pastor Ethan Luhman to the position of Lead Pastor Elect at Peace Lutheran Church and to Amend the Peace Lutheran Church 2024-2025 Annual Budget to Add $55,000 for the purpose of expenditures related to the Lead Pastor Elect Salary, Benefits, Relocation, and Moving Expenses. Jan Steiner Seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimously by voice vote.

Paul Weinke moved to adjourn; Mary Taggatz seconded; the motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
