March 16, 2023 | Deacon Meeting Minutes

Present:  John Reagan, John Genskow, Kathy Sahlhoff, Chuck Falch, Bruce Winkler, Paul Weinke, Kristi Lambert, Vince Maro, Gail Graese

Absent:  James Martin, Anne Hartman

Ex Officio: Mark Schulz, David Forke

Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by John Reagan

1)     Opening Devotion/ Prayer: Pastor Mark

2)     Staff Presentation - Mark

Mark presented the to-date survey results regarding pastoral qualities Peace members are looking for in the new pastor.  81% replied they want a compelling preacher; 60% are looking for a ministry style that draws families w/ young children, and 76% feel a pastor should demonstrate support for a vibrant worship.  At this time the demographics of respondents is predominantly women over 60.  The committee will keep the survey open for a while longer hoping to get a blended response.

4)     Consent Agenda – John R

A)    The February BOD minutes were presented.     

B)     Pastoral Report – not available

C)     Financial Report – not available. 

D)    Policy Review – none available. Motion to approve the consent agenda items by Paul Weinke.  Seconded by Kristi Lambert.  Motion was approved.

5)     Deacon Training – Chuck

Chuck shared some principles of Servant Leadership.

6)     Open Staff Positions – Mark/ David

Emily Sagissor has declined our call to the Director of Children’s Ministry.  Pastor David has previously contacted the synod about an intern in the event Emily declined.  We should hear in the next month if we are approved for a candidate.

7) New Business – John R

A)    Deacons up for re-election are Bruce and Anne.  Bruce indicated he is interested in running for another term.  John will check with Anne before next meeting.

B)     Annual pastoral review – John will ask for 3-5 names from each Mark and David.  BOD may offer input in the review process.  A committee will meet with each pastor with a finish date targeted for May.

C)     Mark asked the BOD for potential sermon topics.  Mark mentioned the book of Revelations.  Additional topics suggested were Social Issues and Why believe in God?

D)    There was a brief discussion about whether Peace should begin a pledge effort or financial campaign to help boost giving.

E)     Staff lunch – April 17.  Vince, Chuck, and Bruce offered to attend.

F)     BOD Nominating Committee – Bruce has agreed to find a chair for the committee with a directive to have the committee members in place by May 1.

7)     Closing Prayer – Pastor David

8)     Motion to adjourn at 8:43 by Paul Weinke.  Seconded by Chuck Falch. Motion Approved.
