Week of August 5, 2024
In this extraordinary life with Jesus, God desires that we find “unity” with our brothers and sisters in Christ. The New Testament has much to say about this.
Monday | John 17:20-23
Jesus paves the road to understanding God’s desire for unity in this prayer. He prays to His Father for us - that we might be one. According to Jesus, what does this unity or oneness look like? For what purpose does this unity serve? How could unity amongst believers give God glory? Do you experience a sense of unity with others within the Church?
Tuesday | Ephesians 4:1-16
The Apostle Paul urges Christ-followers to live (walk) out of their calling in a specific way. How should they live this calling out? (v.2-3) Paul describes the unity of Christian community with 7 “one _______”. Note these seven points of unity. What does this mean for the Church? How do these 7 points of unity impact your life? What is the benefit of living life as part of the body of Christ?
Wednesday | 1 Corinthians 1:10-13
Paul notes that division has crept into the church in Corinth. What caused this division? How have you seen this division creep into our own church or in previous churches you’ve been in? How have you seen God’s grace at work in our church bringing us to a place of oneness? What can you do to help foster unity here at Peace?
Thursday | Philippians 2:1-8
Paul takes his readers back to the source of oneness – Jesus. List all the ways we seek to be of “one mind”. As you reflect on this passage and your list, which area do you believe God is nudging you to become more like Jesus? Pray for God’s power to work in and through you in this area of faith.
Friday | Colossians 3:12-15
Note that Paul is using the imagery of “putting on” new clothing. What are we to “clothe” ourselves with? How does “love” bind everything together? The end result is the “peace of Christ” that unites and forms one body. How have you experienced God’s peace? Note the last phrase of v. 15. How does “thankfulness” fit into the picture of oneness? Take a few minutes to reflect on the “unity” God has called us to and give thanks!
