Week of July 9, 2023
Jesus’ teaching in Luke 12 and 13 suggest a sense of expectation, trust, and urgency in our lives of faithfully following Him. Life's relative shortness and uncertainties dare not keep us from really living. Yes, there are threats and any pursuit has its risks, but followers of Jesus refuse to play it safe and miss out on the adventure that he has in store for us. As a group of 90+ year olds concluded, if they had it to do over again, they would "risk more." May that be said of those who believe in a God who can do the impossible.
Monday | Luke 12:54-59
How does one go about interpreting the present time, spiritually speaking? What is happening around us that is spiritually significant? How would God have his people respond?
Tuesday | Luke 13:1-9
Jesus continues to teach regarding the urgency to respond to God’s message of grace and truth. What is the result of an unrepentant heart? What is God calling you to repent of today? What kind of fruit do think God is expecting you to bear? How has Jesus been preparing you to be fruitful?
Wednesday | Luke 13:10-17
How would you put the point Jesus is making in your own words? In what ways might we be tempted to use (misuse) God’s rules/laws to prevent us from doing good for others, or being about the work of God’s Kingdom?
Thursday | Ecclesiastes 11:1-6
The writer is noting that’s uncertainty is not a good reason to hold back from trying things. Since we do not know what will work and what will fail, we should keep trying and trust that God will take care of us. What “risks” could you be taking in following Jesus and serving others? What worries or concerns are holding you back?
Spend time in prayer, asking God to give you faith to boldly step out in ministry and service.
Friday | 2 Corinthians 9:6-17
In what ways have you seen the principle of verse 6 demonstrated? When it comes to giving of your time, talents, and treasures have you been sowing sparingly or bountifully?
What promises do these verses give us regarding the return on our investing of ourselves in God’s kingdom work?
